COMMITTEE ON THE RIGHTS OF MIGRANT WORKERS CLOSES TWENTY-THIRD SESSION

The Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families today concluded its twenty-third session after adopting its concluding observations and recommendations on the situation in Cabo Verde (in the absence of a report and a delegation), Guinea, Seychelles and Timor-Leste.

The concluding observations and recommendations on Cabo Verde, Guinea, Seychelles and Timor-Leste will be available on the webpage of the twenty-third session on Friday, 11 September.

During the session, the Committee issued two statements - on the human rights situation of Syrian migrants and on the worldwide migration crisis. On 8 September, the Committee marked the twenty-fifth anniversary of the adoption of the Convention by holding a panel discussion focusing on the current trends in violations of human rights of migrant workers and members of their families, challenges for States and promising developments on how to best address these trends in the context of irregular flows in the Mediterranean, migrant workers in the Gulf and undocumented children in the Americas.

An exhibit exploring the visions and realities for child migrants in commemoration of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the adoption of the Convention was opened outside of the Delegates' Lounge in Palais des Nations (Building A, Third Floor), and will last until 18 September 2015.

The twenty-fourth session of the Committee will be held at the Palais Wilson in Geneva from 11 till 26 April 2016, when the Committee will consider the reports of Lesotho, Mauritania, Senegal and Turkey.
