SECOND SESSION OF THE PREPARATORY COMMITTEE FOR THE 2015 REVIEW CONFERENCE OF THE PARTIES TO THE NPT TREATY CONCLUDES

States parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) today concluded the second session of the Preparatory Committee for the 2015 NPT Review Conference, chaired by Ambassador Cornel Feruta of Romania. The Committee conducted its work amid expectations for the achievement of progress in the implementation of the commitments agreed to at the 2010 Review Conference in accordance with the objectives of the Treaty. A total of 106 States parties, five international organizations and 53 non-governmental organizations participated in the session.

During their deliberations, States parties reaffirmed their commitment to the NPT and underlined their resolve to seek a safer world for all and to achieve the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons. States parties are looking forward to the remainder of the review cycle which will culminate in 2015 with the ninth Review Conference to be held in New York.

The session was the second of three to be held prior to the 2015 Review Conference. The next session will take place in New York from 28 April to 9 May 2014.
