New Permanent Representative of Lithuania Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva

Presentation of Credentials

Rytis Paulauskas, the new Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Paulauskas had been serving as Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the United Nations in New York since 2021.  He served as Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva from 2012 to 2016, and as Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna from 2003 to 2008.

He also served at the Lithuanian Mission to the United Nations in New York from 1995 to 1999, first as a Counsellor and then as Deputy Permanent Representative.

During his career, between 2016 and 2021, Mr. Paulauskas held multiple communications related posts, including as Head of the Working Group to coordinate strategic communications related to unsafe nuclear projects (2020–2021); Member of the Steering Committee of the Venice Club of Communicators (2017); and Director of the Communications and Cultural Diplomacy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2016).   

From 2008 to 2012, Mr. Paulauskas held the position of Director of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Chairmanship Department and Head of the Chairmanship Taskforce.  He has also held many positions in Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1999 to 2003, including as Director of the Multilateral Relations Department.

From 1993 to 1995, he served at Lithuania’s Mission to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, first as First Secretary and then as Deputy Permanent Representative of Lithuania.

Mr. Paulauskas holds a master’s degree in arts from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tutis University, Massachusetts, the United States, and a Master of Laws from Vilnius University Law School, Lithuania.  Born on 24 May 1969, he is married and has one child.
