New Permanent Representative of Mali Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva
Sékou Gaoussou Cisse, the new Permanent Representative of Mali to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Cisse, who is also Mali’s Ambassador to Switzerland, held the position of Director for Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation since 2020. Previous positions include serving as Ambassador of Mali to the Kingdom of Belgium, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the European Union from 2015 to 2020; and Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain from 2010 to 2015. He served as Deputy Chief of Staff in the Prime Minister's Office (2008-2010); Diplomatic Adviser in the Prime Minister's Office (2007-2008); and Advisor to the Diplomacy Unit of the Presidency of the Republic (2004-2007).
Earlier in his career, Mr. Cisse held other positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, including as first counsellor at the Embassy of Mali in Paris (1998-2002) and second counsellor (1995-1998). He was born on 23 September 1964 in Bamako. He obtained a diploma from the International Institute of Public Administration in Paris, Peace Class (1994) and a diploma from the National School of Administration in Algiers, Diplomacy Section, (1987).
