New Permanent Observer of the West African Economic and Monetary Union Presents Letter of Nomination to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva

Ousmane Kone, the new Permanent Observer of the West African Economic and Monetary Union to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his letter of nomination to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Kone had been serving as resident Representative of the Commission of the West African Economic and Monetary Union in Brussels since July 2023. He was Director of the Office of the Commissioner in charge of the Department of the Regional Market and Cooperation from May 2017 to July 2023. 

Mr. Kone started working at the West African Economic and Monetary Union in 2002, holding various posts.  Before that, he carried out studies, economic analyses and statistical work in Côte d’Ivoire, including at the Ministry of Economy and Finances (2001-2002), and the Office of the Prime Minister (1996-1999). 

Mr. Kone has a certificate in trade policy formulation, negotiation and implementation of trade policies from the Cheick Anta Diop University in Senegal (2010); a graduate diploma in economic policy management from the Université de Cocody in Côte d’Ivoire (2001); and a diploma in statistical engineering from the National School of Statistics and Applied Economics in Côte d’Ivoire (1993).
