NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF NAURU PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE ACTING DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Chitra Jeremiah, the new Permanent Representative of Nauru to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Olga Algayerová, the Acting Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to her appointment to Geneva, Ms. Jeremiah held various diplomatic and consular posts, including as Consul General of Nauru in Brisbane, Australia. She was Acting Secretary of the Department of Commerce, Industry and Environment of Nauru from January to June 2016. She was the Director of the Aid Management Unit at the Ministry of Finance from September 2004 to July 2009.

Ms. Jeremiah was the Director of the International Affairs Division of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Nauru from 1997 to 2001, and served as Director for regional affairs at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade from 1995 to 1997. She has also held posts in the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, the Office of the President, and the Nauru Fisheries and Marine Resources Authority, among others.

Ms. Jeremiah has a Bachelor of Arts in business studies from the University of the South Pacific, Fiji (1990 to 1993) and a Graduate Diploma in foreign affairs and trade from Monash University, Australia (1995 to 1996). She is married with five dependants.
