NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF IRAQ PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Hussain Mahmood Alkhateeb, the new Permanent Representative of Iraq to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Alkhateeb had been serving as Ambassador of Iraq to Turkey since 2018. He served as Head of the Europe Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iraq from 2017 to 2018, and as Head of the Arab Countries Department at the Ministry from 2016 to 2017. He was Iraq’s Ambassador to Germany from 2010 to 2016. He joined the Ministry in 2009.

Mr. Alkhateeb worked as a researcher and university professor from 1981 to 1990, and worked in the private sector in the Netherlands from 1996 to 2005. He has a Doctor of Philosophy in chemistry from the University of Manchester, England (1980). He was born in Baghdad on 1 July 1953, and is married.
