NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF ECUADOR PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Luis Gallegos, the new Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Mr. Gallegos has served twice as Ecuador’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva and twice as Ecuador’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York. He has also served as Under-Secretary for Political Affairs and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador on several occasions. He has been Ecuador’s Ambassador to Australia and to the United States.

In his personal capacity, Mr. Gallegos has been an expert member of the United Nations’ Committee against Torture from 2006 to 2011. He has been a professor at the School of International Relations of the Central University of Quito and at the Military Academies of the Army and the Airforce. He has been honoured by a number of countries, and in 2011 received the highest Ecuadorian decoration as recognition of his work for his country.

Mr. Gallegos was born in Quito, Ecuador on 13 December, 1946. He has a law degree and a juris doctor degree from the Central University of Ecuador (1975). He is married with two children.
