PERMANENT OBSERVER OF THE COOPERATION COUNCIL FOR THE ARAB STATES OF THE GULF PRESENTS LETTER OF NOMINATION TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Presentation of Credentials

Adel Essa Almahri, the first Permanent Observer of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his letter of nomination to Michael Møller, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Almahri had been serving as Commissioner Member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s Permanent Human Rights Commission from 2012 to 2015. Concurrently, he was Deputy Permanent Representative at the Permanent Mission of the United Arab Emirates in Geneva from 2013 to 2015. He served as the Director of the Human Rights Department in the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2010 to 2013 and was Rapporteur of the Standing Ministerial Committee on the follow-up of the report of the Universal Periodic Review on human rights in the United Arab Emirates, as well as member of the national committee to combat human trafficking. He served in different high positions at the Mission of the United Arab Emirates in Geneva from 2004 to 2010, working closely with the human rights mechanisms in Geneva and New York.

Mr. Almahri has an Executive Master in international negotiations and decision making from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva (2010) and a Bachelor of Arts in Sharia and law from the University of the United Arab Emirates (1997).
