NEW PERMANENT OBSERVER OF COUNCIL OF EUROPE PRESENTS LETTER OF NOMINATION TO ACTING DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Presentation of Credentials

Murat Adali, the new Permanent Observer of the Council of Europe to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his letter of nomination to Michael Møller, the Acting Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Adali had been serving as Ministerial Counsellor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey in Ankara since 2012. From 2010 to 2012, he served as Turkey’s Ambassador to Indonesia and the Association of South East Asian Nations. He was First Counsellor and Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Turkey in Tokyo, Japan from 2005 to 2010; Head of the Department of Caucasia and Central Asia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ankara from 2001 to 2005; Deputy Head of Turkey’s Mission to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in Vienna from 1999 to 2001; and Consul General of Turkey in Mostar, Bosnia Herzegovina from 1996 to 1999.

Mr. Adali has held various other posts with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, including as First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Turkey to the United Nations Office at Geneva in 1995, and from 1993 to 1994.

Mr. Adali was born on 11 April 1955 in Istanbul, Turkey. He has a law degree from the Faculty of Law, University of Istanbul (1980); Barrister at Law, Istanbul Bar Association (1981); and Ecole Nationale d’Administration-Paris (1991-1992). He is married.
