NEW PERMANENT OBSERVER OF LEAGUE OF ARAB STATES PRESENTS LETTER OF NOMINATION TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Mohamed Khamlichi, the new Permanent Observer of the League of Arab States to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his letter of nomination to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Khamlichi, who is a Moroccan diplomat, had been serving as Ambassador, Deputy Secretary-General and Chief of the Information and Communication Sector at the League of Arab States from 2004 to 2012. He was Morocco’s Ambassador to Syria from 1995 to 1999 and Deputy Director for Arab and Islamic Affairs at the Ministry from 1992 to 1995. He was Ambassador to Sudan from 1985 to 1992. Mr. Khamlichi joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Morocco in 1968 and has held posts at Moroccan embassies in Cairo, Damascus and Tunis.

As a Moroccan diplomat, Mr. Khamlichi has participated in numerous sessions of the United Nations General Assembly and at Arab and Islamic Summits. He also followed meetings of the commissions of the League of Arab States while he was posted in Cairo from 1968 to 1972 and from 1974 to 1977.

Mr. Khamlichi has a degree in law and political science and a post graduate diploma in international relations. He was born in Titwane in 1939 and is married with two children.
