NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF MALDIVES PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Iruthisham Adam, the new Permanent Representative of Maldives to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to her appointment to Geneva, Ms. Adam had been serving at the Permanent Mission of Maldives to the United Nations in New York since 2007. She was Charge d’Affaires of the Maldives Embassy to the United States for part of that period. She also served at the High Commission of Maldives in London from 2002 to 2006.

A career diplomat, Ms. Adam has held a number of posts at the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, including as Assistant Director and Head of the Commonwealth and Other International Organizations Conferences Division in 2006; Assistant Director and Head of the Legal and Consular Affairs Department from 2001 to 2002; and Head of the Europe, Americas and Middle East Region at the Foreign Relations Department from 1996 to 2001. She has represented Maldives in many international and regional meetings and conferences of the United Nations and other organizations.

Ms. Adam was born on 2 September 1970. She has a number of graduate and post graduate degrees, including a BA in management and public administration from the University of the South Pacific, Fiji (1994 to 1996); and an MA in diplomatic studies from the Diplomatic Academy of London, University of Westminister (2000 to 2001).
