NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF TUNISIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Abdelwaheb Jemal, the new Permanent Representative of Tunisia to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Jemal had been serving since 2001 as Deputy Secretary-General of the Rassemblement Constitutionnel Démocratique, the ruling Tunisian political party, where he was in charge of international relations, and then of youth and education, and organizations and associations. From 1989 to 1991, he was Permanent Secretary of the party, in charge of youth and education, and organizations and associations.

From 1996 to 2001, Mr. Jemal served as Tunisia’s Ambassadour to Mauritania. He was the Governor of Nabeul in Tunisia from 1992 to 1995, and the Governor of Mahdia in Tunisia from 1986 to 1988. He started his career at the Ministry of National Education in 1971 and has held a number of posts in various government ministries.

Mr. Jemal has a degree in economic sciences and a diploma from the National School of Administration of Tunisia. He was born on 9 January 1946 in Sfax. He has three children.
