NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BURUNDI PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Paul Mahwera, the new Permanent Representative of Burundi to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Mahwera had been a journalist in Germany, where he served, from 1976 to 2002, as editor/writer of French language programming for Deutsche Welle (international German radio). From 1974 to 1976, he was editor/writer of Swahili programming for the same station.

Previously, Mr. Mahwera had been a journalist for the national radio of Burundi, "The Voice of the Revolution", from 1967 to 1971.

From 1971 to 1974, Mr. Mahwera studied at the studio-school of the Radio Cooperation Office in Paris, where he received his professional training.

Born on 31 August 1947 in Bujumbura, Mr. Mahwera received his secondary education both in the capital and in Gitega, in central Burundi.
