NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF FRANCE PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Jean-Maurice Ripert, the new Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Ripert served from 2003 to 2005 as the Director of the United Nations and International Organizations Department of the Foreign Ministry of France. From 2000 to 2003, he was Ambassador of France to Greece. From 1997 to 2000, he was Diplomatic Counsellor to the Prime Minister of France, and before that, from 1996 to 1997, he was Vice-Director of the United Nations and International Organizations Department.

From 1993 to 1996, Mr. Ripert was France's Consul General in Los Angeles. From 1992 to 1993, he served as a Counsellor to the Minister of Health and Humanitarian Action, prior to which, from 1991, he was the Director of the Cabinet of the Secretary of State for Humanitarian Action. In 1991, he also served as a Diplomatic Counsellor to the Prime Minister.

Between 1988 and 1990, Mr. Ripert was Technical Counsellor to the Cabinet of the Prime Minister. From 1986 to 1988, he was Second Counsellor at the Embassy of France in Washington, D.C.. In December 1984, he was Technical Counsellor to the Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and from February to December of the same year, Technical Counsellor to the Cabinet of the Minister of European Affairs. From April 1983 to January 1984, he was Technical Counsellor to the Cabinet of the Minister in charge of Cooperation and Development.

Mr. Ripert holds a diploma from the National Institute of Political Studies in Paris. He attended the Ecole Nationale d’Administration from 1978 to 1980.

Mr. Ripert was born on 22 June 1953, and is married and has one child.
