NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF HUNGARY PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Gyula Szelei Kiss, the new Permanent Representative of Hungary to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Szelei Kiss had been serving as Director-General for International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary from 1995 to 2005. From 1990 to 1995, he was Deputy Director-General for International Organizations at the Ministry, and from 1988 to 1990, he was a senior official in the Department for International Organizations.

From 1984 to 1988, Mr. Szelei Kiss held the post of legal advisor at the Permanent Mission of Hungary to the United Nations in New York, a post he also held from 1975 to 1979. From 1979 to 1984, he was a desk officer at the Department for International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He joined the Foreign Service in 1973.

Mr. Szelei Kiss represented Hungary at the United Nations Commission on Human Rights in Geneva from 1989 to 2005. He also represented Hungary at the United Nations General Assembly in New York from 1984 to 2005. From 1975 to 1979, he was also a member of the delegation of Hungary to the United Nations General Assembly.

Mr. Szelei Kiss holds the degree of Doctor iuris, lawyer, from the Law Faculty of Loránd Eötvös University of Budapest. He speaks English and German. He was born on 19 September 1947 in Budapest, Hungary, and is married and has two children.
