NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF EGYPT PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Sameh Hassan Shoukry, the new Permanent Representative of Egypt to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Shoukry was Director of the Cabinet of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Egypt since 2003. From 1999 to 2003, he was Egypt's Ambassador in Vienna, during which time he also represented Egypt at the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice and the Commission on Narcotic Drugs. From 2001 to 2002, he was the President of the Group of 77 and China to the specialised organizations in Vienna.

The new Permanent Representative of Egypt has also served at the Egyptian Embassies to London and Buenos Aires, and at the Egyptian Mission to the United Nations in New York.

Mr. Shoukry holds a degree in law from Einshams University in Cairo. He speaks fluent English and Spanish. He was born on 20 October 1952, and is married and has two children.
