New Permanent Representative of Vanuatu Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva

Presentation of Credentials

Sylvain Kalsakau, the new Permanent Representative of Vanuatu to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Kalsakau had been serving since 2022 as Head of the United Nations Division within the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Vanuatu, a position he also held between 2010 and 2016.

He served as Deputy Permanent Representative of Vanuatu to the United Nations headquarters in New York, United States from 2016 to 2020.

Mr. Kalsakau also has extensive experience in the spheres of finance, economics and mathematics.  Prior to his diplomatic career, he held high-level positions at the Reserve Bank of Vanuatu and at a private sector bank, and worked as a mathematics teacher for the Vanuatu Teaching Services Commission and the University of the South Pacific.

Mr. Kalsakau holds a Master of Diplomacy, a Master of International Affairs, a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics), and a Bachelor of Arts (Mathematics).  In addition to his native Bislama, he speaks English at a professional level and conversational French.  He is married and has three children.
