New Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva

Presentation of Credentials

Kumar Iyer, the new Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Iyer had been working in London as Senior Advisor at a London-based international law firm since 2024.  He was Director General for Economics, Science and Technology at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office from 2020 to 2023.  He was Director General for Policy and Analysis on the Prime Minister’s Covid Taskforce in 2020.  He also served as Chief Economist at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office from 2019 to 2020.

Mr. Iyer worked at a private global consultancy firm from 2017 to 2019, concurrently serving as a visiting academic at Oxford University, Hertford College.  From 2013 to 2017, he served as Deputy High Commissioner and Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner to India, based in Mumbai.  Between 2008 to 2013, he also served in various posts at Her Majesty’s Treasury and the Prime Minister’s Office.

From 1998 until 2008, Mr. Iyer held a variety of positions in the university and other sectors.
