New Permanent Representative of Burundi Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva

Elisa Nkerabirori, the new Permanent Representative of Burundi to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Ms. Nkerabirori has been serving as Burundi’s Ambassador to Switzerland since April 2023.  Prior to her appointment to Geneva, she had been serving as Burundi’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom since October 2021.  She returned to her post as Assistant to the Minister for Human Rights and Social Affairs at the Ministry of National Solidarity, Social Affairs and Human Rights in November 2020.  She was named Assistant to the Minister for Human Rights and Social Affairs in December 2014. 

From 2006 to 2013, Ms. Nkerabirori started her diplomatic career, working as an advisor on legal affairs in Brussels and then in Geneva.  She worked as a criminal lawyer from 1998 to 2006, and was the first Burundian woman to open her own law firm.

Ms. Nkerabirori was born on 17 August 1969 in Mairie de Bujumburo in Burundi.  She is the mother of a child.  She has a degree in law from the University of Burundi.
