New Permanent Representative of the Syrian Arab Republic Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva

Haydar Ali Ahmad, the new Permanent Representative of the Syrian Arab Republic to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Ali Ahmad served as Chargé D’affaires at the Syrian Embassy in Cyprus since 2021. He served at the Permanent Mission of Syria to the United Nations in New York from 2000 to 2006 and again from 2014 to 2019. He was also Chargé of Consular Affairs at the Syrian Embassy in France from 2008 to 2012.

Mr. Ali Ahmad has also held several positions within Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Damascus, including Director of the Internal Oversight Department from 2020 to 2021; Chargé of the Media Department from 2012 to 2014: and at the Administrative Affairs Department, the Protocol Department, the Economic Department, the Consular Department and the Media Department from 1995 to 2000.

Mr. Ali Ahmad holds a Master of Comparative Law from Université Paris 5 René Descartes (2010-2011), and a Bachelor of Laws from Damascus University (1989-1993). He is married and has two children.
