Message from Ms. Verene Alberta Shepherd, Chairperson, Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

Yes, we can eliminate racism from the workplace.

Tuesday 21 March coincides with the International Day for the Elimination of racial discrimination. This year theme focuses on the urgency of combating racism and racial discrimination, 75 years after the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

On this occasion, the UNOG Working Group on addressing racism at the workplace is pleased to share with the staff a video message that has been specially recorded by Professor Verene A. Shepherd, who is a world-renowned historian, and one of the Caribbean’s pre-eminent scholars and advocates for gender justice, racial equality and non-discrimination. Ms. Shepherd is currently the Chair of the Committee on the Elimination of all forms of racial discrimination.

May this message inspire each and every one of us so that we can collectively secure a working environment free from all forms of racism and racial discrimination.
