Reception marking United Nations Day
and the Anniversary of the Adoption of UNGA Resolution 2758

Friday, 24 October 2025, at 7.00 p.m.
Permanent Mission of the People's Republic of China in Geneva

Delivered by Ms. Kira Kruglikova,
Director, Division of Administration, United Nations Office at Geneva

Ambassador Chen,
Excellencies,
Ladies and gentlemen,

It is a pleasure to join you this evening and to convey warm greetings on behalf of the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, Ms. Tatiana Valovaya.

As we celebrate United Nations Day today, we also mark the 80th anniversary of the UN Charter - a defining moment that gave birth to modern multilateralism. The Charter remains our shared compass, reminding us that only through cooperation, dialogue and mutual respect can we address the challenges that no nation can face alone.

In today’s complex and interconnected world, the spirit of multilateralism is more essential than ever - to maintain peace, to promote sustainable development and to protect the dignity and rights of every individual. We are therefore grateful to China and all Member States that remain steadfast in their commitment to multilateralism, as well as to the principles and purposes of the UN Charter.

We also recall resolution 2758, adopted in 1971, in which the UN General Assembly restored the rights of the People’s Republic of China and recognized its government as the sole legitimate representative of China to the United Nations.

This evening is both a commemoration and a call to action: to renew our dedication to the ideals of the Charter, to strengthen trust among nations and to ensure that multilateralism continues to serve as our most powerful instrument for peace, prosperity and progress.

On behalf of the Director-General, I wish to thank our hosts for this kind invitation and for bringing us together in the true spirit of partnership.

Thank you.
