The war in the Middle East continues, with more attacks across the region causing further terror and suffering. Shipping remains at a near standstill in the Strait of Hormuz, sustaining a global energy crunch that's being felt particularly severely in least developed nations in Africa and beyond, where stocks and capacity are low. In Geneva, meanwhile, an urgent debate on the school strike in Iran’s Minab that killed more than 100 children is first up at the Human Rights Council today.

"A Dangerous Master" Revisited - Wendell Wallach on AI, Ethics and Governance

He’s the author of two books – "A Dangerous Master" and "Moral Machines" – and, until 2024, co-led the Carnegie Council’s AI and Equality Initiative.

The International Day of Reflection on the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, which was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2003. The date marks the beginning of the genocide perpetrated against members of the Tutsi minority by the Hutu extremist-led government. Within just over 100 days, more than 1 million Tutsi were systematically murdered.

61st regular session of the Human Rights Council

The Human Rights Council is the main intergovernmental body within the United Nations responsible for human rights. Established in 2006 by the General Assembly, it is responsible for strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights around the globe.

The Council, composed of 47 Member States, provides a multilateral forum to address human rights violations and country situations. It responds to human rights emergencies and makes recommendations on how to better implement human rights on the ground.
