Cultural Event

The United Nations Geneva Cultural Activities Programme provides Permanent Missions to the United Nations Office at Geneva and International Organizations a cultural diplomacy space to share art and culture at the Palais des Nations. Empowering an exchange and dialogue among cultures and peoples of different traditions and backgrounds, the Programme aims to foster tolerance and respect. Cultural events can include art exhibitions, musical concerts, dance performances, and movie screenings. Events are open to the diplomatic community, staff of the UN system, anyone accredited to enter the Palais des Nations, and the general public upon registration.

Thanks to the active participation of Member States, multicultural dialogue and the culture of peace were strengthened at UN Geneva.

Exhibitions

Each year, UN Geneva hosts more than 40 exhibitions on its premises, showcasing the work of artists and photographers from all corners of the world and featuring valuable documentary and historical exhibitions on themes related to the work of the Organisation.

In the past, UN Geneva has welcomed paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography, video art and large-scale installations, as well as textile and costume displays, exhibitions of cultural artifacts and heritage items.

Organizing an Event

Permanent Missions and International Organisations at Geneva can submit a proposal for the organization of a cultural activity at the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Concerts and Performances

UN Geneva hosts more than 10 concerts and performances each year, ranging from classical recitals to traditional and folk presentations. Concerts are a valuable part of the Cultural Activities Programme at the Palais des Nations, often introducing audiences to a completely new musical style or tradition. More than any other kind of event, concerts provide the opportunity for guests to interact and absorb different cultures; the artists are physically present in the Palais, often dressed in their national costumes, and carrying their national instruments.

All concerts and performances are proposed by Permanent Missions and international organizations in the UN system. The organizer may not charge an entrance fee for any event taking place at the Palais des Nations.
