Geneva Press Briefing: grave situation in Gaza - OCHA - 02.05.25

Two months into a devastating aid blockade of Gaza food has run out and people are fighting over water amid relentless bombing, the UN’s humanitarian affairs coordination office (OCHA) said. Speaking from Gaza City, OCHA spokesperson Olga Cherevko told journalists in Geneva that a friend of hers “saw people burning a few days ago from the explosions – and there was no water to save them.”

Millions will die from funding cuts, says UN aid chief.

“Cutting funding for those in greatest need is not something to boast about...the impact of aid cuts is that millions die,” warned Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher. Lifesaving operations everywhere continue to be shut down by sweeping funding cutbacks which will result in millions of people dying, the UN’s top aid official said on Wednesday.

Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD)

115th Session (22 Apr 2025 - 09 May 2025)

The Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) is the body of independent experts that monitors implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination by its States parties.

Racial discrimination remains a barrier to the full realization of human rights. Despite progress in some areas, exclusions and restrictions based on race, colour, descent, national or ethnic origin continue to cause conflict, suffering and loss of life. CERD works to take action against the injustice of racial discrimination, and the dangers it represents.
