New Permanent Representative of Togo Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva

Afo Ousmane Salifou, the new Permanent Representative of Togo to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Salifou had been serving as Secretary-General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, African Integration and Togolese Abroad since 2021.  Other posts he has held include being Director of Legal Affairs and Litigation at the Ministry from 2019 to 2021 and from 2014 to 2015; First Counsellor at Togo’s Embassy and Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office at Geneva from 2015 to 2019; and Counsellor at Togo’s Embassy and Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York from 2012 to 2013, where he was a member of the Togolese team at the United Nations Security Council. Beginning his career in the Togolese civil service in 2003, Mr. Salifou held various roles until 2011, including as a Research Officer and Head of the Legal Affairs Division.

Mr. Salifou has two master’s degrees in international and European fundamental rights law from the University of Nantes, France (obtained in 2023); and in advanced studies in international law in times of armed conflict from the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, Switzerland (obtained in 2017).  He also holds a bachelor’s degree in private law from the University of Benin, Togo (obtained in 2000).  He is married with three children.
