New Permanent Representative of Kiribati Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva

Uering Iteraera, the new Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kiribati to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Iteraera has been serving as the State’s Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Immigration of Kiribati since November 2022.  He has also previously served as Secretary for the Ministry of Health and Medical Services and as Director for Immigration within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, during which he was appointed a member of the State’s Constitutional Review Committee, Permanent Resident Commission, Citizenship Commission, and National Scholarship Board.

Mr. Iteraera, who is also serving as Ambassador of Kiribati to Switzerland, is the first Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Kiribati to be appointed to Switzerland and the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Originating from the Tabiteuea atoll in south Kiribati, Mr. Iteraera graduated from the University of the South Pacific, Fiji, in 2007 and subsequently obtained postgraduate qualifications in international relations and security studies from the University of Waikato, New Zealand, in 2018. He is married and has one daughter.
