NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF MOZAMBIQUE PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Amadeu Paulo Samuel Da Conceição, the new Permanent Representative of Mozambique to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Da Conceição served as Ambassador of Mozambique to Germany since November 2011, and concurrently non-resident Ambassador to the Holy See, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland. He was Ambassador of Mozambique to Cuba from February 2007 to November 2011. He served as Ambassador of Mozambique to Brazil from June 2002 to 2004, concurrently non-resident Ambassador to Argentina and Chile. He was Ambassador to Italy from September 1994 to 1999, concurrently non-resident Ambassador to Greece, and Permanent Representative of Mozambique to the Food and Agriculture Organization and to the International Fund for Agricultural Development.

A career diplomat, Mr. Da Conceição joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1978. From October 2004 to 2007, he served as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, and Chairman of the Technical Council of the Inter-Ministerial Commission for Major National and International Events. He was also National Director of the State Protocol from February 1999 to 2002; Director of the Africa and Middle East Directorate from October 1992 to 1994; Head of the Political Department at the Directorate of Europe and North American from February to October 1992; and Assistant to the Minister for Foreign Affairs in 1991. Other postings include serving as Third Secretary at the Embassy of Mozambique in Bonn, Germany, and then Chargé d’Affairs a.i. in 1990/1991, and Attaché at the Permanent Mission of Mozambique to the United Nations in New York in 1982 and 1983.

Mr. Da Conceição has represented Mozambique in various international and regional meetings. He has a Bachelor in international relations from the Higher Institute of International Relations in Maputo (1978 to 1983) and a degree in international relations from St. John’s University, New York (Rome campus) (1997-1998). He was born on 8 May 1960 and is married.
