NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF AFGHANISTAN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Presentation of Credentials

Suraya Dalil, the new Permanent Representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Michael Møller, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to her appointment to Geneva, Ms. Dalil had been serving as the Minister of Public Health of Afghanistan from March 2012 to December 2014, after serving as the Acting Minister from January 2010 to February 2012. From 1994 to 2009, Ms. Dalil, who is a medical doctor, worked with UNICEF, mostly in Afghanistan but also in Nairobi, covering Somalia. She worked with the International Organization for Migration from June 1993 to April 1994 and Medicines Sans Frontiers from December 1992 to June 1993, in Afghanistan.

Ms. Dalil studied medicine at the Kabul Medical Institute in Afghanistan from 1986 to 1991, and received a Master of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, United States (2004 to 2005). She was born in Kabul in February 1970.
