NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF FRANCE PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Jean-Baptiste Mattéi, the new Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Mattéi had been serving as Director for Communication and Information and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France since 2005. From 2000 to 2004, he served as Deputy Permanent Representative of France to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in Brussels. He was also based in Brussels from 1991 to 1995 at the Permanent Representation of France to the European Union.

A career diplomat, Mr. Mattéi has served in various capacities at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France, including as Director of the office of the Minister in Charge of European Affairs from 2004 to 2005; Deputy Director in charge of foreign relations and the European Community at the Direction for European Cooperation from 1995 to 2000; and Technical Counsellor in the office of the Secretary of State in charge of international cultural relations from 1989 to 1991.

Mr. Mattéi has a degree in public law from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales (1981) and he also attended the Ecole Nationale d’Administration (Promotion Solidarité) (1981 to 1983). He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1983. He has two children.
