NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF IRELAND PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG
Presentation of Credentials
Dáithí Ó Ceallaigh, the new Permanent Representative of Ireland to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, since 2001, Mr. Ó Ceallaigh had been serving as Ireland’s Ambassador in London. In 2000, he served as the Second Secretary General in the Anglo-Irish Division of the Department of Foreign Affairs, having held the post of Assistant Secretary of the Administration Division from 1998. From 1993 to 1998, Mr. Ó Ceallaigh served as Ireland’s Ambassador to Finland and Estonia, and from 1987 to 1993, he was Ireland's Consul General in New York.
A career diplomat since he entered the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1973, in addition to serving in Ireland, at the start of his career Mr. Ó Ceallaigh was posted in London (1977 to 1982), Moscow (1975 to 1977) and Zambia (1968-1971).
Mr. Ó Ceallaigh attended University College Dublin. He was born in the Irish capital in 1945.
