Opening of the exhibition
“EAEU Countries: Landmarks and Natural Landscapes”

Thursday, 2 October 2025, at 12.30 p.m.
Salle des pas perdus, Palais des Nations

Excellencies,
Ladies and gentlemen,

It is my great pleasure to welcome you today to the Palais des Nations for the official opening of this exhibition organized by the Eurasian Economic Commission in celebration of the Eurasian Economic Union Days. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Commission and Permanent Mission of Belarus, as well as to the Permanent Missions of Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and the Russian Federation, for bringing this exhibition to the Palais des Nations.

Their initiative is an important contribution to the Cultural Activities Programme of UNOG. This Programme, in line with General Assembly resolutions on the Dialogue among Civilizations, provides Member States with a platform for cultural diplomacy, offering a space to share art and culture at the Palais des Nations.

Through the lens of the 30 photographs on display today, we are invited to explore the breathtaking natural beauty and rich cultural heritage of the Eurasian Economic Union’s Member States. Beyond their aesthetic beauty, these images reflect the shared history, traditions and values that bind these countries together.

In these tumultuous times, when global mistrust and disruption are on the rise, it is vital to remember what unites us all. Cultural diplomacy is an essential tool at the disposal of the United Nations Organization and its members to strengthen international cooperation, build bridges of understanding and promote peace. Here at the Palais des Nations, a powerful symbol of multilateral dialogue and cooperation, such exchanges carry profound significance.

The convening power of the United Nations is particularly relevant today, as the magnitude of conflicts, planetary perils and unprecedented digital transformations require urgent multilateral solutions.

Excellencies,
Ladies and gentlemen,

This exhibition is also a testament to the spirit of cooperation among the Eurasian Economic Union’s members and to the concrete achievements of the Union over the past decade. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Eurasian Economic Union — a milestone that reflects a decade of progress in regional integration, trade facilitation and multilateral dialogue. Over the past ten years, the Eurasian Economic Union has expanded intra-union and external trade, improved transport links, advanced digital innovation, and promoted sustainable development in support of the Sustainable Development Goals. Having been closely involved in the creation and first years of the Eurasian Economic Union, I share the pride for its achievements and congratulate colleagues on the progress.

This anniversary coincides with another milestone - the 80th anniversary of the United Nations. Together, these commemorations remind us of the enduring importance of dialogue, solidarity, and multilateralism. They underscore the essential role of cooperation in maintaining peace, protecting human rights, and advancing sustainable development.

This exhibition also reminds us that behind every treaty and law are human stories, vibrant communities, and environments that merit prosperity. By strengthening regional value chains, enhancing transport connectivity, and promoting inclusive growth, regional partnerships contribute directly to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals — from decent work and economic growth to industry, innovation, and reduced inequalities.

Let us take the opportunity of this exhibition to reflect on the transformative power of cooperation in shaping a more sustainable, peaceful, and prosperous future for all.

Thank you.
