New Permanent Representative of Ireland Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva

Presentation of Credentials

Laurence Simms, the new Permanent Representative of Ireland to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Simms had been serving as Joint Secretary to the British Irish Intergovernmental Conference since January 2022.  He served as the Political and Reconciliation Director (Northern Ireland), in the Department of Foreign Affairs, with responsibilities including supporting the effective implementation of the Good Friday Agreement and subsequent agreements, from 2018 to 2022, and also previously worked on justice and security issues in Northern Ireland from 2004 to 2008.

Over his diplomatic career, Mr. Simms also held positions in the Political Division, the Trade and Promotion Division, and in the Embassy of Ireland to the United States and the Embassy of Ireland to South Africa.  He is married with one son.
