New Permanent Observer of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Presents Letter of Nomination to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva

Muhammad Saeed Sarwar, the new Permanent Observer of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his letter of nomination to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, the Pakistani national had been serving as Ambassador of Pakistan to Tajikistan since April 2023.

Since joining Pakistan’s foreign service in 2005, Mr. Sarwar has held various diplomatic assignments in overseas missions, including Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi (2018-2020); Deputy Consul General at the Consulate General of Pakistan in Jeddah (2014-2018); and First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations Office at Geneva (2009-2012).

At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Islamabad, he has also served in leadership positions for the Middle East, United Nations, Europe and South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation departments.

Mr. Sarwar was born in July 1976.  He holds a master’s degree in business administration from the Institute of Leadership and Management at Hamdard University, Lahore, and a Bachelor of Arts in statistics and economics from the Government FC College, Lahore.  Apart from his native Urdu and Punjabi, he speaks fluent English and good Arabic.  He is married and has two children.
