New Permanent Representative of Italy Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva

Presentation of Credentials

Vincenzo Grassi, the new Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Grassi had been serving as Senior Advisor at the Department for the European Union at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy since January 2021. He was Secretary-General of the European University Institute in Florence, Italy from January 2017 to January 2021. He served as Italy’s Ambassador to Belgium from October 2015 to December 2016.

A career diplomat, Mr. Grassi has held a number of other posts, including being Head of the Department for European Policies within the Prime Minister’s Office from July 2013 to March 2014; Deputy Director General at the Department for the European Union at the Ministry from May 2012 to June 2013; Deputy Permanent Representative of Italy to the European Union from April 2007 to June 2013; First Counsellor at the Italian Embassy in Paris, France from July 1998 to August 2002; First Secretary at the Italian Permanent Representation to the European Union from October 1990 to November 1994; and First Secretary at the Italian Embassy in Cairo, Egypt from December 1986 to September 1990.

Mr. Grassi was born on 22 April 1959. He has a degree in law from the University of Naples (1977-1981). He lectures on European issues and has a number of publications.
