New Permanent Representative of Egypt presents credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva

Presentation of Credentials

 

Ahmed Ihab Abdelahad Gamaleldin, the new Permanent Representative of Egypt to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Gamaleldin had been serving as Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Human Rights and International Humanitarian and Social Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt since 2017. He was also Secretary General of the Supreme Standing Committee for Human Rights from 2019. He served as Ambassador of Egypt to Morocco from 2013 to 2017, and as Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Environment and Sustainable Development from 2011 to 2013.

A career diplomat, Mr. Gamaleldin served as Deputy Permanent Representative at the Permanent Mission of Egypt to the United Nations Office at Geneva from 2007 to 2011, and as Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Egypt to the United Nations in New York from 1999 to 2003. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1988.

Mr. Gamaleldin has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the American University in Cairo (1986) and a master’s degree in business administration from the same University (1989). He also has a master’s degree in international economics and international relations from Johns Hopkins University, The Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies, Washington (1991) and a Ph.D. in international relations from the same University (1996). He is married with three children.
