NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF VIET NAM PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Le Thi Tuyet Mai, the new Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to her appointment to Geneva, Ms. Le had been serving as Director-General of the Department of International Law and Treaties at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam since May 2017, concurrently serving as Vice Chair of the Committee for the Advancement of Women at the Ministry. She was Acting Director General of the Department of International Law and Treaties from November 2016 to May 2017, and Deputy Director General of the Department from October 2010 to September 2013, and from July 2007 to February 2008.

Ms. Le served as Viet Nam’s Ambassador to Norway from September 2013 to October 2016. From March 2008 to September 2010, she was living in the United States as the spouse of the Minister Counsellor at the Vietnamese Embassy to the United States. She was the Head of Division and Assistant Director General of the Department of International Law and Treaties from November 2005 to July 2007, and Legal Officer at the Department from 1991 to October 2005.

Ms. Le has a PhD in international economic law from Yokohama National University, Yokohama city, Japan (2000) and a master degree in international economic law from the same University (1997). She has a bachelor degree in international relations from the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam (1988). She was born in 1967 in Ha Noi, Viet Nam, and is married with two children.
