NEW PERMANENT OBSERVER OF THE LEAGUE OF ARAB STATES PRESENTS LETTER OF NOMINATION TO THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Ali Hussain Alsammak, the new Permanent Observer of the League of Arab States to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his letter of nomination to Michael Møller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Alsammak, a Kuwaiti diplomat, had been working at the General Office since September 2016. He served as Kuwait’s Ambassador to Canada from April 2010 until July 2016. He was Director of the Administration of the Americas from January 2008 to April 2010. Mr. Alsammak was appointed Kuwait’s Ambassador to Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay in 2004; Ambassador to Argentina in January 2003; Ambassador to Myanmar in October 2003; Ambassador to Bangladesh in October 1999; and Ambassador to the Netherlands in January 1991.

A career diplomat, Mr. Alsammak served at Kuwait’s Embassy in Brussels from April 1985 to January 1991 as a Counselor where he served as Deputy Head of the Kuwaiti Mission to the European Common. He has represented Kuwait in numerous regional and international conferences and summits.

Mr. Alsammak has a Bachelor of Law from Kuwait University (1974). He was born in Kuwait on 6 October 1953.
