NEW PERMANENT OBSERVER OF PARTNERS IN POPULATION AND DEVELOPMENT PRESENTS LETTER OF NOMINATION

Presentation of Credentials

Denis Broun, the new Permanent Observer of Partners in Population and Development to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his letter of nomination to Michael Møller, Acting Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Dr. Broun, a French national, was the Executive Director of global health initiative UNITAID from 2011 until January 2014. Between 2005 and 2008 Dr. Broun worked for the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), first holding the position of Country Coordinator for India, and subsequently as the Director of Partnerships, and then as the Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia. Prior to that Dr. Broun was the European Director of the American consulting firm Management Sciences for Health, from 2000 to 2005.

Dr. Broun has worked in the field of international health for thirty years. He started out as a health economist with a French engineering company, then worked as a senior health specialist for the World Bank, where he was in charge of the Pharmaceutical Sector from 1992 to 1996. He then work for the United Nations Children’s Fund as Chief of the Health Section, until 1988, after which he moved to Geneva as Programme Manager for the control of tropical diseases and Director of Resource Mobilization at the World Health Organization.

Dr. Broun has a Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Paris, where he specialized in infectious diseases, parasitology and epidemiology. He is also a graduate of the Paris Institute of Political Sciences, and also holds a Master’s Degree in Bio-Mathematics. In addition to his native French Dr. Broun speaks English, Russian, Spanish and some Hindi.

Born in Paris in 1955, Dr. Broun is married and has four children.
