NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF AFGHANISTAN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Nasir Ahmad Andisha, the new Permanent Representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Andisha had been serving as Deputy Foreign Minister of Afghanistan since September 2015. He served as the Ambassador of Afghanistan to Australia, and concurrently to New Zealand and Fiji, from August 2011 to August 2015. He was posted at the Mission of Afghanistan to the United Nations in New York from May to August 2008 to attend the annual conference of the Economic and Social Council.

Mr. Andisha has held many different posts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kabul since he joined it in 2005, including as Director General of the Fifth Political Department (America and Australia Affairs), and Chairman of the Dubai Process (Afghanistan-Pakistan Joint Working Group on Law Enforcement, Counter Narcotics and Custom Cooperation) from June 2010 to August 2011. He was Deputy Director of the Fifth Political Department (America and Australia Affairs) from September 2009 to May 2010; and Director of Multilateral Relations in the Economic Cooperation Division from 2006 to 2007. He started his career as a field officer for the International Committee of the Red Cross from 1999 to 2001.

Born on 11 January 1979 in Kapisa, Afghanistan, Mr. Andisha has a PhD in diplomatic studies from the Australian National University in Canberra, Australia (2015). He has a Master degree in international affairs, economics and development from Texas A&M University in Texas, United States (2009), and a Bachelor degree in economics, public administration and political science from Osmania University in Hyderbad, India (2005). He is married.
