New Permanent Representative of Chile Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva
Luis Plaza Gentina, the new Permanent Representative of Chile to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Plaza Gentina had been serving since 2025 as Director of the Division of Science, Energy, Education, Innovation and Astronomy within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile.
Mr. Plaza Gentina has been a member of the Chilean diplomatic service for over 25 years. From 2021 to 2025, he served as Ambassador of Chile to the Kingdom of Norway, and he has held positions at Chilean diplomatic missions in Colombia, the United States, Austria, the Russian Federation and Belgium. This is his second posting to Geneva, having served from 2020 to 2021 as Deputy Permanent Representative of Chile to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva.
Domestically, he has also held positions within the Directorate of European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Office of the Under Secretary of Foreign Affairs, the Directorate of International and Human Security, and the Directorate General of International Economic Affairs.
Mr. Plaza Gentina is a graduate of the Academia Diplomática Andrés Bello of Chile and holds a degree in law from the University of Valparaíso, Chile; a Master of Laws in international and European law from the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium; and a diploma in senior management for foreign service counsellors from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. He is married and has one daughter.
