NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BANGLADESH PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Presentation of Credentials

 

Mustafizur Rahman, the new Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Rahman had been serving as Bangladesh’s High Commissioner in Singapore since 2016. He served as the Director General of the United Nations Desk at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2015 to 2016 ; as the Deputy Permanent Representative at the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York from 2012 to 2015 ; as Minister at the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations in Geneva from 2006 to 2010 ; as Director of the United Nations Desk at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2004 to 2006 ; and as Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York from 2001 to 2004.

A career diplomat, Mr. Rahman has served as Bangladesh’s Deputy High Commissioner in Kolkata, India from 2010 to 2012. He was also posted at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Paris, France from 1998 to 2001. He entered the Foreign Service of Bangladesh in April 1993.

Mr. Rahman has a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery from Sir Salimulah Medical College in Dhaka, Bangladesh (1990) ; and a master’s degree in public international law from the University of London, United Kingdom (2010). He has participated in a number of professional training courses. He was born on 1 January 1966 in Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh.
