NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BULGARIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Petko Draganov, the new Permanent Representative of Bulgaria to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Draganov had been serving as Bulgaria’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, a post he held since 2002. In 2001, he was Chairman of the National Commission on UNESCO. From 1998 to 2001, he held the post of Permanent Representative of Bulgaria to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, during which time, in August-December 2000, he was President of the Conference on Disarmament.

From 1993 to 1998, Mr. Dragnov served as Bulgaria's Ambassador to South Africa, Namibia, and Botswana. He served at the Bulgarian Embassy in Harare, Zimbabwe, from 1990 to 1993. Before that post, he worked in the African Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1986 to 1990. In 1985, he worked at the Bulgarian Embassy in Accra, Ghana. From 1983 to 1985, he held a post in the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Mr. Dragnov joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1983, shortly after receiving an M.A. in international law from the Moscow Institute for International Relations. His thesis was on international organizations.

Born on 25 January 1958, Mr. Draganov is married and has two children.
