NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF ALGERIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Rachid Belbaki, the new Permanent Representative of Algeria to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Belbaki had been serving as Consul General of Algeria in Lille, France since April 2016. He was Director of Finance at the General Direction for Resources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Algeria from April 2014 to March 2016, and Chef de Cabinet to the Secretary of State in charge of national communities established abroad from May 2010 to September 2013. He was Director of Ceremonies for official visits and conferences at the General Direction for Protocol at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs from August 2001 to October 2004.

A career diplomat, Mr. Belbaki has represented Algeria in numerous international meetings, including African Union meetings in 1987, United Nations meetings in 1994, and Arab League meetings in 2011. He served as Algeria’s Consul in Kef, Tunisia from November 2004 to November 2009. He was charged with opening the consulate of Algeria in Montreal, Canada in June 1996 and served as interim Consul General there until September 1996. He was a Counsellor in charge of political affairs and communication at Algeria’s Embassy in Ottawa, Canada from October 1995 to May 1996. He also served at the Algerian Embassy in Washington, United States (1990 to 1992) and the General Consulate of Algeria in Casablanca, Morocco (1988 to 1990). He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1983.

Mr. Belbaki has a diploma from the National School of administration, diplomatic sector (1979 to 1983).
