NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF JORDAN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Walid Obeidat, the new Permanent Representative of Jordan to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Obeidat had been serving as the Director of the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy since 2018. He was Jordan’s Ambassador to Israel from 2012 to 2018; Deputy Chief of Mission at Jordan’s Embassy in Paris from 2007 to 2009; and Deputy Chief of Mission at Jordan’s Embassy in Cairo from 2005 to 2007, concurrently serving as Deputy Permanent Representative of Jordan to the Arab League.

A career diplomat since joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Jordan in 1991, Mr. Obeidat served as Deputy Permanent Representative of Jordan to the United Nations Office at Geneva from 2002 to 2004. From 2000 to 2002, he served as a diplomat in the Permanent Mission of Jordan to the United Nations Office at Geneva, covering principally the work of the World Intellectual Property. He served as a diplomat at the Permanent Mission of Jordan to the United Nations in New York from 1993 to 1997.

Mr. Obeidat has a B.A. in Law from the University of Jordan (1986 to 1989) and an LL.M in International Business Law from the University of London (1989 to 1990). He was born on 30 November 1968 and is married with two children.
