New Permanent Representative of Chad Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva
Ahmad Makaila, the new Permanent Representative of Chad to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Makaila had been serving since 2023 as the Ambassador of Chad to France, and concurrently as non-resident Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal and the Vatican; Permanent Delegate of Chad to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization; and Permanent Representative to the International Organization of La Francophonie.
This is his second time serving as Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva, having first held the position between 2018 and 2023, while concurrently serving as Ambassador of Chad to Switzerland. Prior to this, in 2017, he worked as Spokesperson for the United Nations Stabilisation Mission in Mali.
Mr. Makaila also has an established career in journalism. He has served as the Director General of the National Office of Radio and Television of Chad; as Director of the Chadian Press Agency; and as an editorial columnist for Radio France Internationale. He was Communication and Human Rights Advisor to the President of Chad from 2002 to 2004.
Mr. Makaila holds a master’s degree in administration and management from the University of Lille, France; a degree in journalism from the Institut de Formation aux Techniques de l’Information, Niger; and a certification from the Institut commercial de Nancy, France. He has been decorated as a Knight of the Order of Civic Merit of Chad and as an Honorary Citizen of the City of Louisiana, United States. He is married and has two children.
