New Permanent Representative of Italy Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva
Presentation of Credentials
Luigi Maria Vignali, the new Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Vignali had been serving as Director General for Migration Policies within the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation since 2017. In 2025, he was also appointed as the Ministry’s Special Envoy for Italian nationals detained in Venezuela.
Over his more than 30-year career with the Italian Foreign Service, he has been appointed to several high-level positions, including as Coordinator of the Permanent Representation of Italy to the European Union in Brussels, Consul General in Jeddah, and Head of the Recruitment Office and the Coordination Unit within the Secretariat General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Mr. Vignali also has experience in the private sector, working in diverse occupations related to defence, international sporting events, and performance evaluation.
Born in Rome in September 1962, he graduated with a degree in political science in 1987.
