NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF CHILE PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Frank Tressler Zamorano, the new Permanent Representative of Chile to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Tressler Zamorano had been serving as Director General at the Foreign Ministry of Chile in charge of ceremonies and protocol. In the course of his 29-year-long diplomatic career, he served at the Planning Directorate; at the Directorate of Multilateral Policy as Head of the United Nations Department; and at the Directorate for Special Policy, in charge of disarmament and international security affairs, of which he became Director in 2017, where he was responsible for the negotiations within the United Nations and Inter-American systems on matters related to defence, disarmament, transnational organized crime, and corruption, among others. Between 2011 and 2012, he served as Human Resources Director in the Foreign Ministry.

Abroad, Mr. Tressler Zamorano served in Canada, Mexico, the Philippines, Ireland and Australia. During his last post, he was the Deputy Permanent Representative at the Mission of Chile to the Organization of American States. He also represented Chile in numerous United Nations meetings in different areas.

In the academic field, Mr. Tressler Zamorano taught international law and integration at “Del Desarrollo”, “Diego Portales” and “Finis Terrae” Universities in Santiago and has many publications. In 2015, Mr. Tressler Zamorano was elected as President of the Career Diplomats Association.

Mr. Tressler Zamorano holds a law degree from the Catholic University of Santiago. He graduated in 1991 from the Diplomatic Academy “Andrés Bello” as the best student of the year. In 1993 he completed a Master of Science in international relations in the framework of the Master of Science in Financial Services Fellows Programme of the University of Georgetown. In 1995, he obtained a Master of Laws from the University of Ottawa, Canada.
