New Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva   

Presentation of Credentials

 

Václav Bálek, the new Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Bálek had been serving as Director of the Department of Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic since February 2017. From June 2015 to January 2017, he served as Head of the Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Section, and from November 2013 to April 2015, he was Political Director-Director General of the Security and Multilateral Section. He was Director General of the Section of Non-European States from July to October 2013.

Mr. Bálek served as the Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the Political and Security Committee of the European Union at the Permanent Representation of the Czech Republic to the European Union in Brussels, Belgium, from August 2009 to July 2013. He was Director of the Department of Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union from September 2006 to July 2009. He was Deputy Director of the Security Policy Department from July 2004 to August 2006. He served as second secretary in the political section of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in London, United Kingdom, from July 2000 to July 2004, and as desk officer for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Security Policy Department, from January 1999 to July 2000.

Mr. Bálek started his career at the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague, Czech Republic, where he worked on research and development from 1992 to 1998.
